just the fact that that warehouse is a real place
@noiob a retro games shop would be cool to own tbh
just sadly not really feasible ;w;
@MochiWaifu yeah I'd love it but the only way to do that is to actually make money selling something else
still, just having a place with a ton of old consoles set up and stuff… such a dream
@noiob yeah ;;
it would be cozy, and it could become a hangout spot too
@MochiWaifu yeah right? I wonder if an arcade-like business could break even around here
@noiob i wonder ;;
if you went for specific crowds (bemani fans) and advertised online enough (to get people to travel there from further away), maybe even had regular events
it could work out but you would probably need to sell expensive snacks on the side or something
@MochiWaifu oh yeah if you also sold decent food it could probably work… still, I doubt I could pull it off
@noiob it would be incredible though
if only we had tons of money to get started...
@MochiWaifu yeah and someone who knew how to run a business like that lol
@MochiWaifu like, I've watched enough Kitchen Nightmares to know that it's super easy to run something straight into the ground
@noiob Any questions about it?
@onf whaddaya mean?
@noiob I know someone who's been there.
@onf dang, that's cool! I wish I could go there myself, I wonder if they have some Apple Newton stuff and I've seen some lovely Sony PVMs in the video
@noiob I think he actually bought a Macintosh or something there, so maybe!
@onf yeah according to the video they have a bunch of Apple stuff, and I'm just assuming that you can find any rare hardware there if you dig deep enough :D
@noiob That's the impression I get. If I was super rich I'd be tempted to buy a huge warehouse somewhere, have a group of people go there and excavate as much as absolutely possible, organize it properly, and then sell it off.
Also, I saw in your thread you were talking about retro game stores... kind of useless information, but we actually have one here that seems to be doing pretty well. They even have an arcade!
@onf yeah I'd love to do that too
Neat! There's a cool local game store around here that seems to be doing okay but they seem to make their money mostly with MTG cards and importing collectible figurines
@noiob This store is pretty much all games. They also have a bin full of crappy DVDs for some reason, and they used to have a comic collection until they broke off from the guy running it, but it's otherwise all games. Here's their website. https://super1upgames.com/
@onf cool, I guess it's large enough to attract people from further away? Also the local store here has almost the same name, what a coincidence https://de-de.facebook.com/oneupstoreaachen
@noiob I'm not actually sure about that, though there's actually a local con coming up in a few weeks they're affiliated with that draws people from (literally!) around the world called Conbravo, that they get a lot of business from. I'll be sure to mention their German clone, haha. (I guess the name's not that creative, it's just one of the most famous powerups from Mario after all.)
@noiob Here's a few tweets of his I dug up on the computer. He and everyone else in the Texas retro computing community were being really vague on the store because they didn't want it to blow up... the way it did. https://twitter.com/MrEightThreeOne/status/1123355850792476673 https://twitter.com/MrEightThreeOne/status/1124886332227108865
@onf what a beautiful 7600. I grew up using a 5200 all-in-one
@noiob He also got some CRT monitor that's apparently a fire hazard, but it works with the weird resolution Macs use!
@onf heh, sweet! I think I've only ever seen either all-in-ones or Macs that are new enough to use VGA
@noiob He used an adapter, but somehow it worked anyway.
@onf analog video is dark magic sometimes
@onf amazing
I wish someone was able to buy that entire place and slowly sort through everything
