@ticky hey, I'm guessing you already did research on this: if I wanna use a Net-MD player with a computer today, do I have to virtualize the old software or is there stuff people hacked together to replace it?
@noiob there is linux-minidisc: https://github.com/linux-minidisc/linux-minidisc, and if you’re after a GUI, it’s not perfect, but platinum-md does the job: https://github.com/gavinbenda/platinum-md
None of them currently do text encoding correctly (stick to basic ASCII only, or use iconv to try to convert to JIS X0201), but I’m working on that lmao: https://github.com/linux-minidisc/linux-minidisc/pull/56
@ticky ooooh, nice, ty
I found a Sony MZ-N1 for a great price so I think I'm gonna go for it. I'd love to have the cradle too but ooof
@ticky well, I already have a minidisc recorder with optical in
@ticky also like, I love me a device that docks
@noiob yeppp they’re cute! I kinda split the difference with my MZ-N920; it docks to charge, but has a standard USB Mini-B jack on the side. Not perfect but nice!
@ticky *looks at ebay* ah
@ticky gosh sony designers were on fire back then
@noiob you’d be able to record to it via optical, and it very likely charges the NiMH via a barrel jack, not USB, and docks generally aren’t that expensive if you’re willing to delve into Japanese auctions, but yeah.
