Steam Deck

I'm not sure if it has mass appeal but holy shit I'm intrigued, Valve's hardware division is good at building stuff that works incredibly well for some people

re: Steam Deck

and like, other companies have proven that a small Ryzen-based handheld is doable, Valve has the money to get smaller, more optimized board designs and really tweak the design

I like getting games (even multiplatform indie games) on the Switch rather than on PC because I know I'll play them more if I have the option for handheld

not sure about the control configuration but I like that they kept the trackpads (I love the Steam Controller for many games) and more buttons on the back + Steam's excellent input remapping system means the buttons and D-Pad are very much optional, just keep your fingers on the sticks/pads

re: Steam Deck

oh, and you can install Windows on it, apparently partner.steamgames.com/doc/ste

re: Steam Deck

also, for many games, this is the Switch Pro gamers have been asking for

it even plays Nintendo games, you can just install Dolphin

re: Steam Deck

biggest downside: potentially having to carry both the Switch and the SD

re: Steam Deck

@packetcat @noiob yea

it runs on a new version of steamOS built for the deck, based on arch and using KDE as the DE

re: Steam Deck

@avie @packetcat does KDE look this much like Win10 these days? dang

re: Steam Deck

@noiob @packetcat yeah the taskbar is very win10ish these days

re: Steam Deck

@avie @packetcat strongly prefer that over Plastique though
