android tablets

my wife has been looking for a replacement for her aging and failing 8" LG tablet which replaced her aging and failing 7" Nexus.

android tablet options, particularly under 10 inches, are obnoxiously bad or outrageously overpriced and underspecced so it has been challenging to say the least.

however, I found a glimmer of hope when I realized samsung has a "ruggedized enterprise android tablet for field workers"

it's still just an android tablet with a chonky rubberized case, but it should have less consumer crapware and it has some nice extras like a removable battery and a fingerprint reader.

a little pricey at ~$500 but still only half an ipad.

I will report back once it's arrived and she's used it for a bit.

(an ipad would not fit her use cases and needs. nor would a refurb tablet running an android fork or linux rom.)

@djsundog I recently got an Amazon Fire 10 for my grandparents. It's very cheap especially considering the hardware is decent (I paid 80€), and you can remove all the Amazon crap and install Google services and normal launchers with a handy program you run on your PC

@djsundog but yeah, it doesn't do much beyond a browser and a media viewer, maybe some basic emulation/gaming. It's a shame that there's basically no competition to the iPad
