why is Airdrop so shit once you introduce one device to the mix that isn't on the absolute newest software version

@noiob Sorry, I just had a bad flashback of working at a 3rd-party Apple repair store and needing to keep multiple different versions of iTunes on different Mac OS versions to service older devices that current iTunes wouldn't touch.
@hache that's weird cuz I'm pretty sure you can still plug the oldest iPods into the newest iTunes (though it'll be hard to get Firewire these days)

@noiob Maybe I'm misremembering, but I do recall fighting with software versions.
@hache I don't know, I got into old iPods at the start of the pandemic and they all worked flawlessly with iTunes on my Windows desktop. Maybe they fixed it at some point
@noiob I also haven't worked at that job in four years, so a lot could certainly have changed!
