imo non-technical people should just say plug/socket instead of male/female connector because they often don't even get it right, see USB-C
@noiob I've seen "plug/jack" used on digikey which is just, so confusing

@socks plug/socket refer to what's attached to the "stationary" part and the part that's on the cable
I'm pretty sure the USB-C wikipedia page is getting it wrong, but feel free to chime in on the discussion page
