like, I quite like Android 12. It's come a long way. But I distinctly recall walking into a store and trying out Ubuntu mobile and I think also Firefox OS? and it was cool and felt like finally someone was trying something new in a pretty stale marketplace
@noiob banana phone
@IDeletedSystem64 yes that's literally why they made a yellow one
@noiob I'm still kind of salty about Microsoft killing Windows Mobile and never doing anything good with Windows Phone. I still feel like Android even now still has ways to go before it reaches Windows Mobile's level of functionality.
@barret yup, Windows Phone was super well-designed and also really pretty. A bunch of my friends had WPs and just used the browser for stuff that you'd have an app for on other OSes. Really sad that they ended up giving up on it before Win 10 which looked so cool
I understand why Firefox OS was cancelled but gosh at the time a mostly-webapp OS with Mozilla's handwriting on it sounded really good. Ubuntu for phones was afaik the first time someone really committed to the phone-turns-into-a-desktop thing
