thinking about getting a better mike rophone so ppl in voice chat stop complaining about my audio but I also don't wanna dedicate desk space to one (or get an arm, I hate the aesthetic of microphone arms)
@prophet_goddess @catalina I use bluetooth headphones so I'd rather not have a cable againg
@noiob ah yeah, understandable, that limits options somewhat
@prophet_goddess yeaah, I currently use a cheap zalman mod mic that pretty much records the whole room
@noiob @prophet_goddess shotgun and put your arm behind your monitor?
@noiob @prophet_goddess i use the elgato mount fwiw it clamps on the back and i have an extension arm or two
@trwnh that's xlr right? sounds expensive
@noiob yes but you dont have to go as expensive as me ;_; you can get a long usb cable and use something like a blue snowball if you realllllly had to
@noiob idk if there's a good alternative to the elgato master mount l + flex arm l though...
@trwnh fwiw I already have a thingy clamped to my desk for my camera so I could probably mount a light microphone to that
@prophet_goddess @noiob usb is probably best for computers though, followed by xlr into an audio interface. 3.5mm is gonna introduce some other issues
@trwnh @prophet_goddess I have a dedicated sound card so TRS should be fine
@noiob (if you go this route i recommend the rode smartlav+ https://rode.com/en/microphones/mobile/smartlav-plus)
@noiob i literally sit a condenser mic on its side on my desk in front of me with no stand or arm and it does well enough that nobody's ever complained about my audio aside from me being a little quiet
@noiob If you don't like microphone arms, have you considered hanging the microphone from the ceiling? Overhead microphones are a thing...
@Denian I haven't, but I rent and don't own a drill
@noiob Yeah, ok, that limits your options a bit. The latter more than the former.
thought about clipping a mic to my camera which already has a desk mount but eh that'd be pretty hacky
