Tech question

How would one go about doing a somewhat accurate speed test?

I know services like that are all over the place but they're super unreliable, full of ads, etc. I know connection speed depends a lot on where I'm connecting to, but I'm thinking of something like... a server that you can curl and it starts sending you data nonstop and you can see the speed and stop it when you're done, or something?

I dunno, does this question even make sense? What I wanna do is move around the house with my laptop to check how bad the wifi is at several spots

@socks if you wanna check your wifi connection you'd wanna connect to something in your local network. Honestly I'd just try to get SNR from your wifi card

re: Tech question

@noiob I don't know what SNR is!

re: Tech question

@socks signal-to-noise ratio, usually a negative number measured in dB
