vegan meat-like food

i find it interesting how vegan meat-like stuffs are always quietly assumed to be inferior to their meat counterparts but like,,,, are we sure its not the other way around actually

re: vegan meat-like food

@mxdragon I mean, it's an imitation so the real stuff is kind of the benchmark here

re: vegan meat-like food

@noiob i mean if u take "how much is it exactly indistinguishably like the thing it looks like" as the one and only criterium, yeah, but that inevitably sets it up for failure doesnt it

i feel like that perspective misses out on a lot

a burger made of some lesser known kind of meat wouldnt be automatically inferior just bc it doesnt taste just like beef, why should a vegan burger be

re: vegan meat-like food

@mxdragon there's a difference between a patty that's like, bean- or potato based or sth like tofu and a patty that's specifically engineered to imitate meat

re: vegan meat-like food

@noiob yeah but even if it was intended to imitate meat that doesnt mean that has to be the only criterium to judge it by

even if its a shitty imitation, as long as i like its taste i dont care what it was "intended" to be

@mxdragon I'm just saying people are gonna judge it by what it's attempting to do, you can do what you want

re: vegan meat-like food

@mxdragon personally I just don't consider myself the target demographic for imitation meat, I don't really need a "replacement". I still buy some because it's tasty
