anyone know how those jank usb video cards work on a technical level, and if it's possible to make a linux usb gadget of it

searching for anything relating to usb video just turns up webcams and capture devices

@unascribed Or do you mean those really bad ones. I think those use a custom driver to do compression.

@unascribed @onfy it basically just dumps raw framebuffers into the thing which works since it's USB3

@noiob @onfy ok, the part i can read tells me what i want to know

namely, that it's a UVC device, same as a webcam, but it has endpoints that go the other way

so that tells me which USB IF spec I need to read and where I need to be looking in the gadget system

@noiob @unascribed Ah, I had older generation USB 2 devices in mind, which obviously can't do that.
