here's something nice:

near my hometown the river Emscher flows into the Rhine, since the industrialization of the Ruhr area it's been an ugly concrete gutter (back then full of sewage). Today they flooded the new artificial river delta that replaces the old concrete weir (on the left in the picture) that had the river plummeting down into the Rhine. Looking forward to visiting it when I'm in the area :)
