@noiob @dialupdoll yeah, the RepRap project (REPlicating RAPid prototyper)

it was what got home 3d printing off the ground and proved the viability of it — modern slicers and firmware are based on those created for RepRap, and most designs are descended from the original RepRap designs

Prusa3D printers are a direct continuation of those designs and are made of a lot of 3d-printed parts still

prior to RepRap, these kinds of printers (called FDM, trademarked) were high-cost commercial systems for creating rapid engineering prototypes — they call it FFF to avoid the trademark but it's the same process

@noiob @dialupdoll you can't quite entirely make a 3d printer using just a 3d printer due to circuit boards, wire, solder, and magnets (though some people have tried to make solder 3d printers that can use perfboard) but you can do all the chassis parts, gears, and even belts using one
