I know the RTX 4090/4080 are massive cards but this picture with the RX 7900 XT and XTX sitting on top makes clear just how big

considering upgrading from my RTX 2080Ti to a RX 7900 XT once there are partner cards available

raytracing performance is the only thing I'm losing out on but tbh raytracing is still not worth the additional cost that NVIDIA is charging for these high end GPUs

I still think raytracing is very cool tech which is partly why I bought the 2080Ti back in 2018 but since then it hasn't really panned out

RT still causes too much of a performance hit and there hasn't been any "killer app" for it yet

like the most "wow" I've gotten out of RT is still Minecraft RTX

and that was years ago

right now this is my bigger problem though

"FSR 2.0 didn't provide the same frame rate boosts in our tests as DLSS 2.0 at comparable quality settings."

this is from Ars Technica's review

and supersampling tech like DLSS and FSR is far more useful right now to the vast majority of people including me

"Will fit in the case you already have and use the power supply cables and connectors you already have."

love how this has to be listed in the good section of a GPU review because GPUs have gotten so big physically that the size has become a concern for people other than small form factor case users

talking about GPU benchmarking minutiae

its interesting to me to see what games each outlet uses for their suite of games tested for card performance

GamersNexus uses Total War 3: Warhammer 3, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, FFXIV, F1 2022, Rainbow Six Siege, Strange Brigade, GTAV and for RT they have Cyberpunk 2077, Control

Ars Technica uses Borderlands 3, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Red Dead Redemption 2, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, GTAV and for RT they used Hitman 3's Dubai level, Forza Horizon 5, Quake 2 RTX, Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Rock Paper Shotgun uses Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Total War: Three Kingdoms, FFXV, Forza Horizon 5, Metro Exodus, Horizon Zero Dawn, AC Valhalla, Watch Dogs Legion, Hitman 3, F1 2022

@packetcat wait surely GN doesn't use Tomb Raider (2013)? (or the other one)

talking about GPU benchmarking minutiae

@noiob unsure, it says "Tomb Raider" in the video

I think its Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Follow

@packetcat it's gotta be Shadow, 2013 doesn't even have DX12, shadow has raytraced shadows

talking about GPU benchmarking minutiae

@noiob yep, I updated my post to say Shadow of the Tomb Raider

@packetcat though I'd love to see the original TR in a benchmark lineup
