tried the switch version of uno since it's on game trials atm

verdict: i can't imagine paying for this, even the fifteen dollars they're asking. it's uno. it came free with my fucking xbox

more serious review of uno for the switch

uno is honestly a pretty boring game even played with physical cards, and it's especially boring played in video game form with faceless ai. there's very little in the way of strategy or clever planning, it's just a bunch of picking out a card you're allowed to play from your hand or drawing if you can't play anything

there're technically a few actual choices you get to make: choosing a new colour when you play either of the wildcards, possibly challenging a draw four play if you think it was illegal, the game lets you Not call "uno!" when you're at one card left but why would you, and i guess sometimes you have more than one legal card to play. sometimes

but none of that really does much of anything? who cares actually, the game is basically just random

i played maybe seven rounds, won about four, and didn't have a lot of fun :blobcatgooglyshrug:

and unlike many better card games you can play on the switch, such as slay the spire for example, this one doesn't even grey out the cards you can't legally play at the moment?? which is bizarre considering how restrictive the rules of uno are in terms of cards you can play

on the bright side, there is a colourblind mode, which adds cute little symbols to every card so you can distinguish them without colour. that's pretty cool. i liked that a lot

there's also a bunch of toggles for playing with house rules and things, which is quite good, since basically everyone plays with the "you can stack draw cards" house rule for example

there are also gimmicky "add-on" modes which introduce extra cards based on other ubisoft properties? i only have access to the rabbids one in the trial, which is not very interesting?? and you have to buy all the other ones as dlc if you want to use them??? and also use an ubisoft connect account???? so fuck that

overall yeah it's super boring. and it's an ubisoft game so it's got predatory capitalism as a bonus

@00dani UNO is more fun if you have house rules that make it more chaotic and punish players who don't pay attention, because that adds some skill to it

why anyone would buy a UNO video game eludes me
