I'm not a fan of algorithmically generated artwork when it's used as a replacement for paying actual artists; nor do I like that the needed models tend to be trained on work by artists who haven't consented to that use.

But... I have been considering using it to make illustrations for my blog posts—something that otherwise just wouldn't have any imagery.

No artists lose out because I'm not commercialising it, nor is it replacing any commission work they would have otherwise gotten.

But there's no way to be sure that the model used doesn't have (effectively) stolen content in it, and training my own model based solely on things I can use is just grossly impractical.

Are algorithmically generated images like this ever really going to be acceptable in their current form?

@batbeeps what's wrong with existing things like free stock photos?

@noiob Rarely, if ever, have the kind of image I'm actually looking for, and rather ironically they tend to look kinda artificial and lifeless much of the time.
