vegan snacking enquiry, meat mentions

I'm a snacker. (Bunny, you know) Often, that'll mean ham.

What are some good vegan options that can take its place? Either convincing ham replications, or anything else that might fill that textural and savory desire. (And ideally, as cheap as ham/bacon, though that's likely impossible, whether due to meat industry subsidies, or profiteeting by the vegan "meat" makers - how can it be way cheaper to produce ham or bacon than Quorn chunks?)

@porsupah you could probably fry up some thin strips of firm tofu with some soy sauce or bbq sauce and get something that scratches the itch

depending on where you live farming is heavily subsidized, on the other hand plant-based alternatives get sold for higher prices because they're ~lifestyle~ products

@noiob That might well work - I do enjoy firm/baked tofu and tempeh, and preparing a tub of such I can just pull out of the fridge occasionally would be easy enough. And, yes, that'd circumvent the "lifestyle" pricing. (*sigh*)
