I'm not an UX expert but the coffee maker stopping 1/3rd through my cup because it's out of water (it actually still has enough water) is kinda shit

good news is that the cup had enough space left for what the machine considers a cup so I just ended up with a bit of bonus coffee

@noiob If the water level needs to be a certain minimum then check that beforehand and let the user know. But luckily you now have some bonus coffee.

@ff0000 I wonder how it measures the level, probably pressure? Maybe there's limescale somewhere

@noiob that's very well possible, not sure how quickly that would build up with a reservoir that can be removed (i guess?) it does build up super quickly in a water boiler. And maybe pressure, that would make the most sense. I never see them with a floater mechanism.

@ff0000 definitely no floater, the tank is removable

@noiob so it has that valve rubber thing at the bottom that hooks into the machine correct?

(i have really no idea, but now i am intrigued with the idea)

@ff0000 just one of those spring-loaded valves many coffee machines have these days

@ff0000 it's also not my machine, just the one I use at work ^^

@noiob that means this is the best time to be discussing this! on work time!

Also, apparently a lot of machines use magnets! standexelectronics.com/applica

@ff0000 that's smart, basically a floater but without the complicated mechanical connection. I don't think this one does that, the tank sits on top of the machine and is transparent

@noiob yeah! indeed! If the tank sits on top it might be easier to do a direct pressure measure.
