Incidentally, I want to get an RSS reader working for me again, and I don't want to go back to Feedly for a variety of reasons. But most of the recs I've seen going by just point at Github or some such. Can anyone recommend a good very basic RSS reader that I can just leave open in a browser tab, the way I do my email inbox, my Mastodon instance, and other 'check on this periodically during the day' locations?

@fade would theoldreader.com work for you? or do you not need a web sync component at all?

@noiob That looks initially promising! Especially if it'll deliver me RSS feed updates that are just a title I can click to go to the updated page, rather than trying to yank all the content into the feed's page there in the reader.

@fade I mean technically RSS feeds are supposed to contain the entire content but that's up to the host, obvs

@noiob This is probably dating me, but back when bandwidth cost more and everything was ad-supported, a lot of webcomics would go broke if the RSS feed sent you all the images without ever giving them any ad impressions; I learned my 'manners', such as it were, from that starting point.
