twitter blue

I think an underrated aspect of the ongoing twitter checkmark trainwreck is that mastos URL based verification is in fact better and more sensible than anything twitter has ever done in the space and with some minor tweaks (maybe make it opt-in and require a domain wide config in .well-known at top level) and new UX (something like: put checkmark + verified domain in a little frame after or below the username) could easily be adapted to fulfill exactly the role twitters verification process ideally should but currently doesn't

@noiob yeah but I mean, I do see that you'd want to put it in the name. But you could easily just... do that. Have a verified domain name like [x cnn.com] or whatever, after or below the username. Add some top level config so people can't pretend to work at tumblr. Work out the usual issues with lookalike domain names or whatever else comes up, add a manual dispute function and block list. Eventually you'll have an almost automatic, very serviceable checkmark system.

but elon decided that 8 dollar blue so lol
