mourning today the twitter apps of auld that were killed off by the api token limits intended to strangle that entire community

fenix and flamingo were my favourites on android, both of which offered an immense amount of user facing customisation right down to loading custom fonts from your phone storage and hex value colour pickers for accents, backgrounds, etc... i have yet to find a mastodon/fediverse app that comes close

i miss having full control over the visual experience

how isn't it a basic function of the mastodon software yet?? let me make my ui cute and soft pastel coloured! or tea stained sepia with candy apple accents!! i'm so bored of the 'mastodon blurple which totally isn't the original discord blurple trust us'...

@listeninggarden Masto has theme support but they need to be added by the server admin, there's a pretty cool win95 theme and a bunch of servers come with custom themes

@noiob that's kind of my problem though, none of that should rely on the server admin to enable!

by default, everything should be made available to the end user to do with as they wish. everything is *way* too admin-centric when it should really be the other way around to reduce the overall friction. i doubt most admins even know it's a thing they could do
