Does Markdown even *work* on public posts?
Seriously, I've seen people using formatting, but for some heckin' reason it **doesn't** seem to be working for me. 😖

Answer: The default is to keep vanilla Mastodon behavior, which does not support formatting. Go into preferences → other and you can change your default formatting to be plain text, Markdown, or HTML.
You can also go into app settings (the Glitch specific ones) and add a content type button below the compose box in case you'd like to swap it explicitly from post to post.

@KinkyKobolds you probably don't have it on, there's both a setting in the normal settings ("default format for toots") and one in the glitch settings that enables a chooser below the compose box
