you ever see a word and all of a sudden realize where it must have come from? I had this the other day at a store, they had umbrellas out and the sign for them was in english and spanish, which means I saw the spanish word for umbrella, "paraguas". I realized that "agua" is in there and wondered if it was a compound word from "para + agua", which I would have roughly translated to "for water" in the sense of "in case of water"
turns out that I was partially right, "para" in this case...(con't)
@balrogboogie the French have the good old parapluie/parasol that many languages have adopted (at least parasol)
@balrogboogie yup! and pluie is the rain
also I just realized "umbrella" comes from "umbra" meaning shade :D
