networking weirdness, assistance welcomed

So, as of a few days ago, I've been having some WiFi oddness.

The setup is a cellular router (operating essentially just as a modem), providing a network to an AirPort Time Capsule; that serves the house WiFi over 2.4 & 5GHz, and a few drives.

The main puzzle is that Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp now won't connect at all, if the iPad's on the usual AirPort or the cellular router's WiFi, but, is fine if I switch the iPad over to cellular. Same cellco in both cases, same APN. Originally both using the default DNS, now both set to Quad9's, which hasn't made any difference to this issue.

I'm puzzled what the problem could even be. My suspicion is that Nintendo's at fault, as their network code's always been a bit jittery. Ultimately, it's not a big deal, as I can just flip to cellular when I want AC:PC, but I'd enjoy getting to the bottom of this.

Thoughts?

@porsupah I'm gonna guess DNS (because it's always DNS), can you override DNS settings on your router or your iPad?

@noiob Already done - tried Quad9's, but no difference, whether configured in the iPad, AirPort, or cellular router.

@porsupah hm, it shouldn't hit any firewalls or anything considering it's probably just using a standard http api and no peer-to-peer
