goal for today: figure out what kind of screws i need to put together a table

this table is made of wood and has 4 screws missing. attached was a set of miscellaneous screws, each one a different size, and i'm not even sure how to determine which of those fit safely and i don't wanna mess up the table lol

okay so the holes are somewhere between an eight to three sixteenths of an inch wide at the top. or two of them are, lemme measure the other two

1/8th an inch is correct. depth is tricky, but 🤔🤔🤔 i have thread in the room with me...

they were with my cross stitch i never finished (oops)

okay no thread is not rigid enough. i need a thin rigud object...

hex wrenches from the fiancé(e) run small enough!

1.5 inch depth (the wrench was 3inch so i just measured the bit that protruded out)

so

1.5 inch long, 1/8 inch wide screw. the head should be just under 3/8s of an inch for the top (well, bottom, the table is upside down) hole on the base, maybe i'd just do 2/8s to be saaafe?

i guess the only thing i need now is the, like, spacing of the spiraly bit? or should i just assume that searching these other things + wood screw will get me what i want from here?

@MindmeshLink if you're screwing into wood does it matter?

@MindmeshLink wood isn't threaded so any wood screw should hold

@noiob huh! that's... really interesting to me. like it doesn't become threaded from the screws previously put in it? wow

@MindmeshLink I guess technically it does? but it's soft, you're pushing it apart with the screw, so you can't really catch the previous screw's hole perfectly anyways

Follow

@MindmeshLink also I think wood screws have a specific thread just because that one catches best in wood
