yeah it works once booted up yet seemingly not on initrd

why

so here's a list of apps I feel like installing pls r8 thx xoxo

(Blender is missing because HIP support)

maybe I’ll add more dev tools and thingies like 86box later but that’s about it

also: virt-manager is installed separately too

oh and let’s add KiCad

and PDF Arranger too, that’s handy

still no 1.0 stable tag for Fritzing on Github: bruh

DBeaver maybe, but that's already something I rarely use lol

oh and Dconf editor and PasswordSafe oops x3

gosh I wish busd was a thing already, but guess I’ll stick with dbus-broker

imagine if Nix could setup a TPM-protected Bcachefs partition for you

that’d be handy for some use cases

as in: e2fsprogs is not responsible, that’s libblkid

BUT it depends on libuuid, and it doesn’t seem like NixOS or Systemd explicitly depend on that one?

bcachefs-progs depends on it and (obviously) gets added tho

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm maybe I just need to use nixos-unstable?

It’s hard to overestimate how cool it is that you can do so much with free (as in beer speech!) software these days tbh

The system you want to deploy secrets to should already exist and have sshd running on it so that it has generated SSH host keys in /etc/ssh/.

why agenix

just noticed I’m using the Kyber I/O scheduler on Arch, presumably due to using the Zen kernel… and it looks like it’s kinda all over the place?

I don’t think I want to do that on NIxOS, but I wonder if I could pick up bfq instead or settle down with whichever defaults are set

it’s seemingly been a while since anyone benchmarked I/O scheduler performance tho

actually it seems Kyber is included by default even on the initrd for NixOS

huh

I might bother to check later but, ok I’ll just assume I simply know nothing about the topic

as for process scheduling, it seems CFS has much better latency and MuQSS has a little bit better throughput

so yeah, stick to CFS

https://www.diva-portal.org/smash/get/diva2:1566002/FULLTEXT01.pdf

looking at these two links I guess Zen just took the CFS timing tweaks over to EEVDF and that’s about as much as that kernel provides?

https://github.com/zen-kernel/zen-kernel/wiki/Detailed-Feature-List https://github.com/zen-kernel/zen-kernel/issues/327

what I’m gathering from this and looking at nixpkgs is that is that the mainline kernel is getting pretty good ootb and you shouldn’t worry much about it as an end user

the realtime patches could be cool? but not bothering with that atm either

…ngl I wish we were getting something like openSIL for Radeon as well

imagine it: SR-IOV on any GPU

for now tho

hardware.enableRedistributableFirmware = true;

oh

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

https://github.com/virtio-win/kvm-guest-drivers-windows/pull/943

maybe we’re fine without SR-IOV (with Linux hosts) but stillstill

btw yup, UUID= works just by using nixos-unstable so, yay

and honestly, I don’t feel like setting up agenix is worth it rn, I don’t even know if I’ll ever share my flake yet so

mayyyyyyyyyyyybe I’ll use Lanzaboote and… that’s it

ah right I should have a system monitor oops

so it’s either GNOME System Monitor, Mission Center or Resources
