hm, I wonder how director detects that quicktime is installed

@onfy iirc programs can embed it in some way to play the video format so there's probably an api

@noiob version 3 of director actually looks for the dlls in your path which is very fucky, but 5 does something else

@onfy idk I just remember a ton of Windows software relying on externally installed Quicktime back then, like games with fmv

@onfy well, they usually came with the installer on the disc but you get what I mean

@noiob thing is, quicktime is a plague and potentially a compatibility hasard

with V3 I actually found out you can just not install quicktime and instead copy it to the program folder... wanna try to do that for 5

@onfy idk I mostly used macos back then (well not in 1995 but with computers that old) which naturally had no quicktime trouble

@noiob yeah, this all works a lot better on mac!
