is there a guide on how to run mastodon locally without the whole dev container bullshit that is impossible to troubleshoot
@Siph I just want the docker shit to work
@noiob I don’t want to use docker at all personally bc I’ve been frustrated about it in the same way
@noiob (jic the page I linked doesn’t use docker, I thought this is what you were looking for based on your own post)
@Siph yeah I know about the install guide, I've run through it a lot. awoospace is a local installation, not dockerized
@Siph sorry I'm just frustrated, I already have minimal energy to work on this shit and the "just press a button and it configures itself" shit not working just saps that immediately
@noiob hey that's fine and understandable
@Siph looks like the folder has to be named "mastodon" instead of e.g. "glitchsoc", love running into edge cases
@Claire the postCreateCommand fails for some inscrutable reason, I'll dm you the log on discord if that's okay?
@noiob yeah
@Siph docker is fine tbh, I use it extensively for work and all the stuff I self-host on my home server runs in docker on truenas. it has its pitfalls, especially on not-Linux but I don't wanna figure out VMs either lol
@noiob I just use the regular install guide https://docs.joinmastodon.org/admin/install/
Then I use minica https://github.com/jsha/minica to create a custom ca that I import in a web browser and generate certificates for the VM’s IP
