soul calibur II looks pretty damn impressive at 720p on xbox*

*aside from being 4:3 and 30fps!

the low framerate is less noticeable to me than I expected but the mandatory pillarboxing in 720p is really funny. there is a 16:9 mode! it's only supported in 480i/p

ok that's apparently a lie. I set it to 480p and it's still 4:3

@onfy It definitely has a 16:9 mode on Gamecube; but it's probably just like every other 16:9 mode of that era, you have to stretch it on your TV.

@The_T @onfy I mean that's just how analog tv works, it doesn't have the concept of pixels per se

@noiob @The_T it didn't look 16:9 after setting it in the xbox menu but huh I didn't know gamecube also has it

@onfy @noiob yeah; it's a big selling point of the Switch 2's Gamecube support that when you enable the 16:9 mode in the options, the Switch 2 automatically stretches it.

But stuff like UI is never going to "look" 16:9 because that would require making new assets; it's only the 3D stuff that's gonna change.

Follow

@The_T @onfy I mean the gamecube should be capable of squishing 2D stuff to have the right aspect ratio
