i take it as a personal triumph that posts on chitter from 2018 still have working media

OK SO I LOST ALL THE POSTS ONCE. so what. i think every sysadmin is allowed one big whoopsie within 24 hours of the initial launch. it taught me a very important lesson about docker volumes

i'm pretty sure post ID 1 on here is me posting "auuhh i fuced up so bad sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry"

was, i guess. it got deleted by forget

lmao i started enumerating post IDs expecting to maybe see violet do damage control and post id 12 is maffsie telling me i should have uncommented the volumes, which reminds me that mastodon used to come with a docker-compose file that simply lost all data if you didn't turn it off right github.com/mastodon/mastodon/c

is it good that mastodon switched to non enumerable IDs, for privacy and security reasons? yes absolutely. am i a little sad that people on servers launched after that change don't get to enumerate the first few posts to see their very own "setting up my twttr"? yes also

if you're an admin you could look in the database to see the oldest posts but i think don't? idk i treat looking inside the database like some kind of sacrilegious act. i do it to diagnose an issue only and only with posts and accounts that have been explicitly provided to me by the issue reporter (or stuff that i can see on my feed). i dont want to see something that someone doesn't want me to see

@codl I treat looking into the database like a huge hassle
