okay seriously what is the deal with airpods on mac as a microphone
I am starting to doubt my recording procedure
but I get results that are just fine, or at least within expectation, on windows
what is happening
windows: well, you know. not great. but it's just the normal bluetooth audio dogshit quality, all within expectations
mac os: for some reason, the signal is superwideband but it is so bad as to be basically unusable
like. what
maybe it's the seal on the airpods to ears? idk how properly i pushed them into the artificial ears...
but this is microphone recording direction, it should not matter (but maybe it does? maybe the airpods use the internal mics for beamforming? maybe?? but then why only on mac os
@noiob (also why has *apple* not heard about it and fixed whatever the hell is going on. or is that a Teams On Mac Special, maybe?)
@halcy I mean some basic processing and beamforming will always run presumably, but also my coworkers use airpods all the time and they sound fine so who knows
@noiob yeah this is extremely confusing to me. I‘ll go back into the lab and try some more stuff tomorrow
@noiob I mean, sure, though technically I asked mac os to Not Do That by selecting "standard" mic mode (but maybe that toggle didn't take, for some reason?)
it's more confusing to me that, if this is in fact what doing a call using airpods on a macbook sounds like then why have I not heard about that
