i sound like an aliexpress product listing here just trying to find something that lets me toggle a lamp on and off without needing to shell out 80 euro on a useless hub to bury away in a drawer somewhere. I already have a homepod in the apartment
even the whole matter protocol thing makes this 0% clearer what is going on
what I need is like two on-off plugs for a couple lamps, and a dimmable plug for my lava lamp, and somehow even the more basic of the two just absolutely needs you to get some fuckass hub on your network even though the supposedly matter-compatible homepod is right there
im two hours into research on this and the closest conclusion I've gotten so far is "don't bother"
closest thing is get a zigbee hub but even that seems to be a commitment to only working with one hardware vendor
i havent found one hardware vendor that offers a dimmable smart outlet IN THE EU, but there’s tons that offer a version of that for the US market
make it make sense
@dogo 230V dimmers sound like a nightmare for complying with safety regulations
@noiob any wall dimmer runs off 230v too, and those seem abundant
@dogo I suppose if it has a plug socket people will plug a tv into it and complain when it breaks
