The last few days idly browsing Wikipedia have exposed me to more than one instance where a helicopter’s main rotor just decided to nope away from the rest of the craft mid-flight, and even though I’ve never been and am unlikely to ever be aboard a helicopter, my brain just went “ONE FEAR.”

@erkhyan fun fact I learnt and didn't fact check: if you fly a helicopter wrong enough you can cut off its own tail

@noiob AFAIK, it can happen even if you fly it correctly but encounter bad air turbulence.
