Recently my boss asked me about the realization of a configurator web tool for a client. Now he inquired for an external offer (“too expensive”) and asked ChatGPT for a prototype.

He said he’d rather solve this internally and hand the project to me (even if it means a learning curve.) But he also tried to convince me to try to use Claude and such to faster generate the whole thing. (mehhh)

To be fair, the ChatGPT prototype he showed me isn’t complete garbage. But it didn’t spark joy to review either. And half of the functionality (the tricky bit) was missing anyway.

It feels a bit like when back in the days I looked at awful HTML/CSS code and thought to myself: “It’d be easier and faster to write this from scratch than to fix this mess.”
