toothpaste game
the first toothpaste experiment had orbs, which shatter if they fall, and only Blue could climb while carrying them
for this second toothpaste project, i have
1: orbs, which shatter when falling, but both characters can climb while holding them.
2: diamonds, which don't shatter when dropped, but neither character can climb while holding them.
should i only use one? if i keep both in, should they be interchangable or have separate receptacles? or try something else entirely?

the thing is there are some points of this basic. design. thing. that i think, aren't very fun to play.
i might have a hard time coming up with puzzles that use characters in separate places. and so, when they're not separated, it's just going to be a waste of time to have to swap between them?
orbs and diamonds don't seem to have enough... consequence? or effect on the characters.
it's simple to swap between carrying & not-carrying them, which makes their rules kind of moot.

i'm unsure whether i want to have very few elements like some old puzzle games, or to have more variety and flexibility. either way, i'm worried about my creative ability.
but i'm doing the thing again where i only worry about game elements, and don't actually make content.
i've heard that game development should extend on three axises roughly equally, which iirc are like... functionality, polish, and content. none of them should fall far behind or get too ahead of the others
