Ok, lets get to the bottom of this mastodon, why are so many trans men into Bowties and trans girls into Chokers.
I propose that the "im hiding my adams apple" from trans girls to be a front, it is an easy excuse but it isnt the deeper reason at play here.
Trans people like something around their neck,
why.
The Adam’s apple excuse is self-defeating because it offers no coverage and draws the eye towards it.
Better off using a silk scarf tied around the neck.
I suspect the real reason is something closer to the very common desire to reclaim the femininity of a time where we weren’t truly able to express it.
@AudreyJune well now this has come up in a conversation recently, there is one choker that specifically does do coverage and that reasoning is why it is centrally chosen as part of costuming in the pilot episode of POSE when Angel is first in the hotel room with the trick.
She is still hiding a part of herself at this moment (transness/genitalia), and not sure of his level of awareness.
@siege @AudreyJune a)what a great in & out of universe detail in POSE & b) there’s cis precedent for choker-as-camouflage, queen Alexandra wore one for life to hide a scar on her neck
@siege @AudreyJune right?? She had some made custom for width, but tbh I like the looks where she just stacks a ton like bangles
@Sleepytimeteabear @AudreyJune theclosest thing i have to this is a thick pink collar choker with a plastic pink macaroon hanging from it with lace
@siege @AudreyJune ooooooooo
@Sleepytimeteabear @AudreyJune for all their corporate sins, dolls kill were the first company to go het what if we made these chokers so they can fit trans girls too, and our own lines of boots and shoes should go up to US 11 minimum but with these pastel ones, let's see what happens if we go up to size US 15
Another piece to add to the “I hate that Dolls Kill makes shit that I want” list.
@AudreyJune @Sleepytimeteabear and i understand theres problematics but no one else sells hot sexy shoes i love in my size that isnt a drag queen shop here in the UK in brighton so no one can stop me from buying from them and i dont feel bad about it.
I don’t think you should feel any worse than folks who have to shop at Walmart in Star City, NV because it’s the only place around.
@AudreyJune @Sleepytimeteabear the only worse part i fele is that i have to import tax which means like £25 + 15% of how much i paid for the clothing
@siege @Sleepytimeteabear omg that’s BRUTAL
@AudreyJune @Sleepytimeteabear in days gone by before we left the worlds greatest economic union, it was merely a drop in the pond considering the prices of the item in pounds. But now yeah woof, i havent ordered anything from them for a long while and im kinda glad they moved into the late 90s stage of stuff which is totally not my vibe and got out of the cool early 90s late 80s styles that were impossible for me to avoid.
Yeah, while late 90’s is definitely less aesthetically fun and pleasing, it holds a certain nostalgic sway over me as it was the look of my high school years.
@siege @AudreyJune @Sleepytimeteabear Oh gosh, I hadn't looked at the Delia*s stuff before
This is very me
