I'm still kind of confused as how to follow folks on other instances, did I do this wrong? Like should it be something else?

I've also tried:

Myusername@myinstance.whatever

Sometimes I'm able to just follow folks, but occasionally it'll say I'm not logged in.

@saintajax33 Long as you know their username you should be able to easily follow them. However going to other instances you do need to have an account on that instance.

The system is kind of janky like that and only allows viewing of instances freely through the Federated tab.

@TrackerRoo so would I just search for their username from my instance? I've been trying that, but nothing pops up. Do servers need to be federated for that to work?

@saintajax33 You'll need their username and then right after you need to @ their server name. So like to follow me from outside this instance you'd need to @TrackerRoo and then @meow.social right after it with no spaces.

@TrackerRoo @saintajax33 it is kinda janky in that it doesn't do enough to tell you that the web display of people's profiles and posts is entirely different from your home server's web client

one workaround to interact with people/posts is to copy the url of the profile/post and paste it into the Search bar of your home web client, then you can interact (fav, follow, reply, etc) from there

@saintajax33 From the looks of the first pic, seems like you're trying to follow them directly from their instance and not from awoo.space? If so, yeah, you'd appear as not logged in since they're technically different sites.

As has been mentioned before, it's easier if you log in your instance and search for them there (with @username@instance); or if you've interacted with/seen one of their posts, just click on them there to follow, just don't open it on a new tab/window, as that might also end up redirecting you to their instance.
