$ - today we asked some friends about what three games they think they could play for the rest of their lives (assuming that servers stay up, and games that are updated often still are updated frequently for the duration of their lives). we'd like to ask this question here as well: what games do you think have enough content, replay value and general fun that you think you could replay them for the rest of your life?
please reply with your answer, and an explanation if you feel like writing one.
$ - I'll start.
1. Toss-up between Elite: Dangerous and No Man's Sky
they both have practically infinite procgen universes of course but that doesn't equate to content. The way they're implemented, however, absolutely does. Both have so many pretty star systems, fun combat encounters, legitimately interesting and engaging randomized events, and a surprising amount of depth to their mechanics (thread)
$ - 2. Tales From Off-Peak City Vol. 1
I only have two hours in this and yet have already completed it three times. There's so much to it for being such a short, simple game. It has a camera with different types of film and exposure settings to take weird and cool photos of this generally weird and cool place, and there's so much to come back to that it's gotta be on the list
$ - 3. Fortnite
Say what you want about it but I fucking love this game. It's constantly evolving and changing and playing a match is less like playing a battle royale and more like playing an open-world game that changes over time, with other players thrown in being just another part of the small challenges. It really feels like something that could be played forever
^ - 2. Tetris Effect
it's. it's Tetris with the prettiest graphics and music in the entire series
it's Tetris that made me cry the first time I played through it and still does sometimes
also it's a game that can go on forever so that fits the question
% - and now it's my turn
1. either Apex Legends or Titanfall 2
both of them have their merit as great online FPSes even if they're in pretty distinct genres and it's hard to choose between them. I can't get enough of the fantastic feeling of movement in both of them, though Titanfall 2 is definitely better for that aspect
% - Jet Set Radio Future
Amy showed me this game a while ago and it feels like a game I could replay and never get tired of. it's fantastic. the soundtrack is full of bangers and the gameplay is so smooth that I sometimes spend minutes just messing around in the Garage, trying to pull off a big combo
% - 3. Elite: Dangerous. Amy says it's a toss-up between it and No Man's Sky but honestly I like combat in my space games and as fun as NMS is its combat doesn't even come close to E:D (if you specifically seek it out, of course). it's fast, fluid and there's a lot of customization available for it. overall it's my favorite space game specifically for its combat (and the graphics are also nice)
^ - 3. Tempest 4000
It's one of those games that you can just completely be invested in, and it's what Amy and I were playing the first time I figured out how to front. it has these overwhelming visuals that just pull you in and music that I listen to constantly even outside of the game
