Did some headphone repairs today! The headphones work perfectly, but the fabric was faux leather and it was peeling horribly. Black flecks everywhere. We wound up sewing new fabric over it and while they're not perfect, the results are good enough to keep using a perfectly good pair of headphones without buying anything new. Both ear cushions are like this now.

@candlebrae is the sound noticeably different? the way the ear cup material changes sound can actually be quite interesting. lots of professional-level over-ears are specifically designed with swappable cups

@sanctumsys No noticeable difference to us. We were worrying about that a little since we use these when writing music, but it turns out that the sound is similar enough that we can't tell the difference.

@sanctumsys Correction: the bass may actually be a bit better now? Hard to be sure, but I think it's coming through more, especially mid-bass. Good sound regardless.
