This is particularly silly because Chrome itself even handles the Google Translate integration by observing a combination of Content-Language and the lang attribute of the HTML tag. So some parts of Google seem to recognize this standard, while the search indexer uses fucking content heuristics and separate IPs to detect content language, and totally ignores the standard headers and html features.
@trysdyn yup. It really speaks volumes to the imperialist mindset of tech companies assuming the world is divided cleanly by state borders with singular "native" languages.
Example: just because I am accessing a Google site from an IP geolocated in Japan does not mean I want content localized in Japanese. Especially if my browser is already telling the web server I want it in English. Which it is.
I have just been made aware that the composer for the Quake mission packs was Jeehun Hwang, who also did the soundtrack to Dark Reign, a 90s RTS I really love
Sure love that my executive dysfunction stopped me from properly pre-treating my lawn last fall and now I'm suffering for it
@trysdyn YEAH that was me lmao. sorry for jetting so quick and not really introducing myself!
@trysdyn I just waited in the stream room for a bit after the show! it didn't take long to get an elevator after the initial rush, at least for the south tower...
Grump-post about people complaining about the dollar-impact of GDQ
Oh god, it's worse than last year. So much worse. I gotta nip this in the bud (literally), but it's kinda rainy and gross outside so I can't 2,4D it all to hell.
re: activitypub vs capitalism
@multiple_creatures this is an important feature of apub's technical design for freedom on the network, and I think makes it stand out from Twitter et al. So it's important to make the distinction for the particular problem being addressed.
