The only reason we think of causality as moving forward in time is that we subjectively experience time as flowing in that particular direction.

There's no a prori reason to say that event A causes later event B. It's equally logically possible that B is causing A.

Really though I find it more meaningful to say that directional causality is a hoax and time is a static series of connected relationships.

@starkatt omgomgomgomg have you read "Story Of Your Life" by Ted Chiang? if you haven't I have it and I can give it to you! it is relevant to this discussion. XD

@green I personally don't think sapir-whorf could ever give me wings, but it's damn nice to think about :)

@starkatt I have not seen the movie, but now I'm very curious about it, despite that from what I've read the plot seems to resemble that of the story about as much as the plot of the movie "World War Z" did the book.

@green So it's actually an incredibly well-done adaptation imo. Emphasizes a totally different set of points to make it work better as a film, without losing the same core. Also it is absolutely beautifully shot and edited.

@starkatt I will definitely have to check that out at some point then. :D I'm wildly curious to see the visualization of what the aliens and their writing look like...

@green Oh it's so good.
Me, going in: "okay so how are they gonna make a language seem genuinely alien?"

Me, midway through: "ohh, that's how."
