I'm still going on about Monsterhearts
A thing I really appreciate about the game's writing is one tiny piece of copy:
The phrase used is never "earn Experience" or "gain Experience." It's "mark Experience". It's not something you get, it's the result of having gone through a complex situation where you had opportunity to learn something.
Fits in really well with how mechanically, Experience is very often given as a result of failure, not success.

Another thing I appreciate is that after five level ups (usually semi-frequent and incremental changes in ability level), the game says "okay now start working on wrapping up your major plot arcs, and then /seriously go play something else for a while/."
