If you just have one account on one instance, you may not realize that Mastodon federation -- the means by which toots are sent from instance to instance -- is not instantaneous.
It may be seconds or minutes for a toot to traverse even directly connected instances. This depends on server load and how many messages are in the queue.

@Azure yeah, Communication Workers of America was (and still kinda is) a really big deal.
@Azure Oh, Union culture is also a really big part of it.
@Azure I think the belief that your company will be around in 50 years and you should design with that in mind is a big part of it. I also think people realized really early on that phones were fundamental necessary infrastructure, in a way people are only just this decade starting to understand about the internet, and then only kinda spottily.
@Azure But I attribute that more to differences in engineering culture over time more than anything.
@Azure Reliability and tech-wise they were exceptionally good, though.
@Azure Short version is that Bell billed the shit out of everything.
