If you just have one account on one instance, you may not realize that Mastodon federation -- the means by which toots are sent from instance to instance -- is not instantaneous.
It may be seconds or minutes for a toot to traverse even directly connected instances. This depends on server load and how many messages are in the queue.

I kind of want .social to close for new accounts at 100,000. I'm more & more concerned that the task of moderating & nurturing a meaningful community within the instance will become far too large for the resources of our tiny, basically volunteer team. :S
I also feel like massing so many people on one instance weakens the potential of mastodon in general to play with models of building interconnected, human-scale communities.

I regularly use 3d printers, CNC machines, and laser cutters, and after trying to fix some holes in my pants today I'm here to tell you that the sewing machine is no less complicated to use, and no less magic.
While I understand why "wear a bomb suit and don't get within 50 feet of anything live" rules exist, it doesn't reflect the reality of most work environments.
Trying to find electrical safety info on youtube and it's all either a three-minute warning blurb or a lecture that goes over the exact details of safety code but not how to actually apply best practices when working on sketchy shit.
I forget which of y'all posted a thread about electrical safety earlier this week but I just got myself an insulated shaft screwdriver so thank you :)
