btw i named my starter ship in elite dangerous "Squid Tower".

Having spent almost two weeks now failing to call insurance and get a policy for my new car does kinda demonstrate that phone anxiety is still a thing for me :/

One weird UI thing is that there doesn't seem to be an indicator on the radar or HUD pointing to your locked destination??

I can't quite tell yet where it falls on the "relaxing" and "boring" axes :P

Euro Truck Sim was *great* when I was trying to pass time while severely depressed, but outside of that state kinda failed to hold my interest.

Okay, my phone accepts input from an Xbox 360 controller plugged in via USB, thats… unexpected

makes me really wish I had a vr headset and matching graphics card though.

So I picked up Elite Dangerous and okay is is it basically space trucking with occasional rounds of laser fire?

"I trust you" isn't just the most romantic phrase in the english language, it's also the hottest :)

@starkatt it won most paperclips which is really the only award that matters

Related, it's kinda irritating when a track has a huge buildup before it has built stakes by sufficiently establishing that it's at least a little bit bangin'.

Show thread

EDM opinion: huge buildups before mediocre or even merely adequate drops are just the saddest thing.

(I have listened to a bunch of these because apparently a number of people have had similar thoughts, and this my favorite :D )

Me a couple nights ago: "hmm y'know a dance remix of 'how far I'll go' from Moana could be pretty cool."

Internet: "Here ya go!"

This might be relevant to a number of folks here.

It's starting to feel at least a little bit like the sun is coming back, so once again I am sky-guided :)

And I'm not talking about outsiders coming in, eff that: I wanna see what people who *live* in these places would do with these buildings. Real subculture and counterculture is grass roots, it withers under established homogeneity of aesthetics and values.

Let there be a new weirdness, many new weirdnesses, across these United States, in all those shuttered, abandoned buildings that capitalism has used up and discarded.

Show thread

These spaces can, and should be reclaimed for any number of uses, but I can't help but feel like the creation of weirdness, of art, of culture, should be an easy one to get started on. I don't even *like* a lot of the look and feel of Burning Man, but can you imagine what enough bold, creative weirdos could do to an empty abandoned Walmart or movie theater in the middle of nowhere?

Show thread

Every year in the US, a whole buttcrapload of people go out to the desert, build a giant weird bohemian art city (with a large contingent of ultra-rich silicon valley people also present for kulture kred), then they (to the best of their ability) clean up, leave, and go back to normal (for some definition thereof) life

Its 2018. Like it or not, all over the country, massive areas of enclosed pseduo-public space once devoted to retail commerce are emptying out, never to open again.
