Did you know: coelacanths are more closely related to mammals than to ray-finned fish (i.e. most of the fish species alive today)!

Coelacanths are members of Sarcopterygii, the lobe-finned fish; Sarcopterygii also contains all tetrapods, which includes mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. Lobe-finned and ray-finned fish split long before some of the lobe-fins developed into tetrapods and began crawling onto land.
