What I am reading now: the second book in Ann Leckie's Ancilliary trilogy. It's hard to describe the premise without spoiling the FLAWLESS way Leckie unfolds this universe in the first book. Seriously, she learned her chops in short stories, and it shows. If you love putting together the jigsaw puzzle of a world as an author reveals them, do yourself a favor and pick up "Ancilliary Justice" blind.

I've complained before about the Gregorian calendar not having good intercalary days, but experiencing 1am twice is pretty nice.

Goodnight for real, now.

Y'all are so, so fucking important.

We have each other.

We must.

This evening I have seen a string trio improvise pieces in response to audience theme suggestions and I now know what it looks like when people are drift-compatible.

Seattle suburbs are different from a lot of other suburbs in that a whole lot of the trees were left standing as part of development. I'm glad for it.

Seattle thing I didn't have to do back in Albuquerque: remember the locations of all the different suburb cities.

Also, y'all, please get HPV vaccinations and pap smears.

She did a lot of outreach on this topic in the months before her death.

death/mourning, parents

When my mom died, I didn't feel quite this way. I was sad, yes, but it was different.

She died of cervical cancer, and knew it was coming for months. She chose the time to stop getting life-extending treatment. She and everyone around her had plenty of time to reach acceptance. Though it was definitely too soon it felt... natural, cyclic. There was no shock when she finally passed.

This doesn't feel anything like that.

Will probably change it further when Awoo gets Natalie's candle.

I just literally handed my ballot to the postal carrier :D Vote early so you don't have to go to a drop box!

Washington having universal vote by mail is pretty cool, but it really ought to have return postage paid and there should be a way to vote in person for folks who don't have stable addresses.

Hey, Seattle/Washington folks, remember to vote.

Moon is definitely not ideal, but I will 100% pick her over "honk if you love neoliberalism" Jenny Durkan.

Also, Jon Grant is cool and you should vote for him.

I guess, apparently I feel like there's a lot of gap between xtian theology and christian custom?

Show thread

I have this weird impulse to refer to the broader cultural pattern/social group of Christianity as "christian", but to refer specifically to the theology and doctrine as "xtian" and I don't know why but think that's kind of interesting?
