katt's pain scale

I'm really curious to see how this compares to other people's scales?

Also though it's fundamentally unquantifiable :<
Fuckin' qualia.

Also I feel like I can never actually *remember* the sensation of pain in a sensory way? I can think about the idea of it, but not the sensation itself.

GRS, Katt's pain scale

So like... when a nurse would ask how much pain I was in and I'd answer 5, that meant "the current pain management is really not sufficient and I'm distressed." Which I would then actually tell them rather than hoping the number would be sufficient

I don't know if that's how most people would use 5? They seemed to think I was underrating my pain. But like, it always felt like it could be a *lot* worse so I didn't want to claim something higher.

Katt's personal pain scale

The step from 3 to 4 is when the pain becomes impossible to ignore

4 to 5 is when addressing the pain becomes important

5 to 6 is when it becomes urgent

6 to 7 is when I start to feel I might need serious medical attention

...beyond that I don't really have mapped.

Each number there is a *significant* increase. And uhh I hope that's enough room at the top end? I don't have much experience with the top end tbh.

You know what I find really wonderful? Voice in writing.

It's so cool to me that our written language is expressive enough that each individual can have a distinctive sound irrespective of the actual content. It's cool to me that those voices are identifiable; I bet there's a number of you I could pick out of a lineup by text alone.

It's cool to me that every time I pick up a book, I need a few dozen pages to really feel out the rhythm of that particular writer.

I started in on reading Bone Dance since it's been recommended to me like three times :)

The writing style doesn't quite resonate with me yet but I have a lot more to read!

I may have pitched the prequel novella already but anyway,

Fun book recommendation: Into the Drowning Deep; Mira Grant

It's like Jurassic Park but oceanic, a lot gayer, and with undiscovered mermaids. Also one of the leads is autistic and presented in a way that I find nice.

Reading the novella isn't necessary. This hits most of the same beats, only better.

(thanks @cyndisision@witches.town !)

So I got around to watching San Junipero

and

I'M GAY.

It's really nice when I ask for book recommendations and among the suggestions are two of my favorite series and a third book that I really enjoyed. Makes me believe more in the other stuff suggested alongside :)

Anyone have random book recommendations for something fun to read?

That feeling when watching a show and being so confused at being unable to understand the dialogue for the five minutes it takes to realize that subs aren't on.

Turning it on makes the overhead room light start to strobe.

Apparently yr electrician gf didn't notice that it wasn't plugged in.

The cord was not actually long enough to reach any plugs at the appliance's placed location.

I think a good test of media savviness is "can you detect a piece's bullshit even when it's bullshit you agree with?"

@starkatt By showing people epic-length fanfics that are better than the original published work.

Like the one I found on Tumblr once where Harry is a Squib, but because McGonagall refuses to go easy on him he becomes good enough at theoretical magic to lead Dumbledore's Army anyway

and an inspiring enough leader that he can mobilize his classmates to kill Voldemort in the end

and afterward he and Hermione become advocates for Squib rights

The microwave in this hotel room has a dial and no buttons and I have no idea how to operate it.
