god a couple things happened pretty quickly in a row in outer wilds that demoralized me and i have not been back to that game in ages
outer wilds, not looking for any spoilers or hints just this is where i'm at
what i remember is that i tried for so long to get into the tower of quantum knowledge
and you might be saying to yourself "holly that puzzle was easy" and you're so right! the correct answer was the first thing i thought of! and it just inexplicably didn't work. i tried it a bunch of times and the specific piece of ground that i needed to collapse always did so like, seconds before the loop reset. i never had nearly enough time to do anything about it. so i thought i was supposed to find another way in. and i was doing goofy shit, too. i was lodging my ship into weird geometry to try to get it stuck and jump in via a window, i was orbiting around the wormhole at the center of the planet and trying to jump out at the right time. it was nonsense. and then eventually the ground just collapsed and it worked and i have no idea why
and then once i got in all the information there was like "here's shit you already know. also we put something important on the quantum moon" so i've gone and looked at the quantum moon and found fuck all
and i just. put the game down. didn't intend to quit but it's sure been a minute

outer wilds is probably one of my favorite games of all time, but the fact you can do anything in any order really can sometimes give you some pretty unsatisfying dry spells
i'm lucky seeing the log fill out was enough for my completionist lizard-brain if i ever made a discovery later than it could have been useful--so that didn't sting as much as it could have for me specifically
