abolish cops question

if cops were gotten rid of entirely, how would traffic laws about things like speeding and running reds be enforced? im not tryin to "therefore you're wrong" the idea or anything, it's just something i've wondered about for a long time

@typhlosion A lot of the ideas I've seen run along the lines of self-policing communities.

Basically, policing won't cease, but The Police will be abolished and replaced with a more accountable system made up of individuals from the community for the actual purpose of protection and service.

@typhlosion Also 98% of the time those things are all enforced by social contract anyway; there aren't cops at every intersection making SURE you don't cheat, people just do it because That's What You Do At A Stop Sign and also most people Don't Want To Die In A Fiery Car Wreck

@typhlosion before police, when a crime occurred it would be called upon for people to catch the one who committed it, collectively. the courts handle guilt or innocence. police are a para-military arm that's supposed to handle investigation and arrest but does nothing citizens couldn't, except through special powers courts can provide only to them.

@typhlosion Seems like a hard problem of trying to imperfectly balance whether the cure is worse than the disease. (which is disease and which is cure I leave to the reader)

I get the frustration that this cat litter has deposits in it, and is so old that scooping might take care of the obvious visible problems, but it really needs dumping and the pan a good wash.
